Three Things I’m Into & Food Log Friday

Hey guys!! How are you?

It’s good to be back on the blog! My husband and I snuck off for an amazing vacation while I was away. I’ll tell you lots more about in a travel post next week.

Let’s start with 3 things I’m into that I think you will be too.

ONE: Tone It Up Bikini Series 2017

I love writing my own workouts and going to Bodyflow but I’m always up for trying something new. My sister introduced me to Tone It Up right before their Bikini Series 2017 kicked off. When I looked at the website I recognized the trainers/bosses Karena and Katrina from their brief stint on the Bravo reality show Toned Up. Probably a sign I watch too much Bravo…

The Bikini Series is an 8-week program that includes a new and different workout each day. Most of the series is free but there are 8 workouts used throughout the series that come in a bundle for $34. This is the first week of the series and so far there have been bodyweight workouts, resistance workouts with weights, HIIT and yoga. The workouts are way more challenging than I expected and fun! After one week my entire body is sore.

In addition to the Bikini Series 2017, they offer lots of free workouts under the fitness tab on their site. Check them out for some fun, new workouts!

TWO: Kevita Sparkling Probiotic Drinks

img_2953The Kevita Sparkling Probiotic Drinks are a water kefir drink as opposed to a kombucha drink. They contain probiotics and provide all the digestive and health benefits without the distinct kombuch flavor. I really like the coconut, strawberry acai coconut and the mojita lime mint coconut. Here’s a tasty mocktail recipe with the mojita lime mint coconut.

THREE: In the Shadow of Lakecrest by Elizabeth Blackwell

I read this book while on vacation and could barely put it down. It’s an easy read and a great story with lots of twists and turns and suspense.

Food Log Friday

I started off the morning with a green drink. It’s water with 1 scoop of Amazing Grass Green Superfood Detox & Digest but it looks like swamp sludge. Tastes better than swamp sludge though.

Then I made two over easy eggs in a little grass-fed butter. I ate the eggs with asparagus, cherry tomatoes and some cilantro & oregano pesto. I also had a little coffee with 1/2 and 1/2 and coconut sugar. While I sipped on my coffee I looked at the Publix add to see if there was anything on sale that would be good for next weeks meal plan and prep.

After my Tone It Up Bikini Series Day 4 workout I made a quick and delicious protein shake with ice, water, 1/2 a frozen banana, a handful of frozen figs and 1 scoop of chocolate whey protein. I like this kind. The figs are really good straight out of the freezer. They remind me of eating fig newtons as a kid.

For lunch I was really craving a sandwich. I ended up making a chicken sandwich with gluten-free bread, avocado-oil mayo, mustard, a slice of provolone cheese, a baked chicken breast, lettuce and pickles. A sandwich is not complete without pickles.

In the late afternoon I made some strawberry lemonade. I combined the juice of 1 lemon, water, 1/2 a dropper of stevia, a sprinkle of sea salt and 2 sliced strawberries and poured the mixture over crushed ice. I also made some deviled eggs and snacked on two.

Dinner was a kitchen sink bowl of what was left in the fridge. Sautéed cabbage, asparagus, broccoli, peas, roasted sweet potatoes and tomatoes all mixed up with some of the cilantro & oregano pesto. I also had two more deviled eggs.

Lower Body Blast Workout & Food Log Friday

Hey ya’ll!

I am a little behind on posts this week so I thought I would combine an awesome workout with Food Log Friday.

I’ll be honest with you. I am a little behind because I had way too much fun at a local food and wine festival last Sunday. There were hundreds, freakin’ hundreds, of wines and champagnes to taste as well as beer and bourbon. I really went for it and probably tried 99 wines/champagnes and some bourbon for good measure. It was an epic Sunday Funday followed by an epic three day hangover.

Lesson 1: alcohol is tasty and fun but at the end of the day it is indeed a poison.

Lesson 2: I am no longer in my 20s and need to act accordingly.

Lesson 3: I am much more productive and energetic when I keep alcohol to a minimum.

Keep this in mind over the weekend especially if you find yourself surround by 100s of tempting alcoholic beverages.

Sweat Sesh: Lower Body Blast

This workout is a circuit. Complete all 10 exercises with minimal rest in between exercises. Rest 2-5 minutes/until you catch your breath and then start the next round. This workout can be done at home or at the gym. All you need is a set of dumbbells and a jump rope. If you do not have a jump rope you you can substitute squat jumps for the single/double unders.

Warm-up: 5 min jump rope, walk, jog

Rest 2-5 minutes or until you feel recovered enough to start the next round. Complete 2-3 rounds.

Please listen to your body and modify as necessary. Enjoy!

Food Log Friday

I planned to meet a friend at the gym for a plyo workout within an hour of waking up so I didn’t want a big breakfast. In the Magic Bullet I blended, 1 cup hot water, 2 tablespoons Dandy Blend, 1 tablespoon coconut oil and 2 scoops Vital Proteins collagen. It’s rich and frothy and provided the protein and fat I needed for my workout without making feel too full to jump around.

After my workout, I had a more substantial breakfast. I made 2 over easy eggs, heated up some baked sweet potato fries, mixed some spring mix greens with Tessemae’s Honey Balsamic dressing and washed a few blackberries. I also had a little iced, decaf green tea to drink.

After I ate, Tyson was being his normal crazy self and stealing mail off the dining room table so I took him for a walk. I was a little hungry again after the walk so I ate 1/2 of an Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Quest Bar. This is the first time I have tried this flavor and it was really good!

A few hours later, I pulled together lunch from whatever I could find. I ended up with cauli-broccoli rice, sautéed onions, bell peppers and mushrooms and a can of wild-caught tuna. It’s a weird combo but it filled me up.

Late afternoon I drank a green juice. I like this one because of the low sugar content but they are a little expensive. I only buy them when they are BOGO at Publix which they are right now so go getcha some.

Dinner was crispy chicken thighs (one of the best things ever!), collards sautéed in bone broth and baked sweet potato fries. After dinner, I had a few chunks of frozen pineapple.

Have a great weekend! Get in a workout and not too many drinks 😉
